Vehicle Inspection for Uber & Lyft Drivers in Minnesota

The Uber and Lyft inspection requirements in Minnesota change based on the city in which you drive, but regardless of your city, RideShare Mechanic won’t be able to help you with our video chat inspection service, due to the requirements in the state.

For drivers based in the twin cities (Minneapolis-St. Paul), you must take your car to a city-approved inspection site. This can be done at many local mechanics, so we recommend that you pick one close to you and call to confirm that they will conduct the Uber inspection for you. If they conduct the inspection, then they should have the inspection form already printed off with them, so you may not need to print it off.

Although this is the expectation set forth by Uber, it obviously would not hurt to call them and confirm that they have the form.

Similar to Uber, Lyft also requires an inspection protocol that is a bit unique compared to other states, and for this reason, RideShare Mechanic is unable to provide a Lyft inspection over video chat for Minnesota-based drivers.

For of all, vehicles in Minnesota must be 2004 or newer, but for those that are between 2004 and 2008, they must have fewer than 150,000 miles at the time of inspection.

So where should you go to get this inspection? You must go to an approved inspection provider in the city; find approve places in this map.

As always, be sure to call the shop in advance to confirm that they will perform your Lyft inspection, and also be sure to print the form and take it with you. Inspection fees range from $30-$40.

Our recommendation for areas outside of Minneapolis/St. Paul is to schedule an inspection with YourMechanic. YourMechanic is a service that will send a mechanic to your car to perform mechanic services, including the vehicle inspection. Schedule an appointment here.
