Vehicle Inspection for Uber & Lyft Drivers in Washington DC

Washington DC has unique requirements for the vehicle inspection; it actually requires that you do an in-state inspection that is specific to either DC, Maryland, or Virginia. For this reason, Rideshare Mechanic is unable to provide an inspection for DC-based drivers.

Where to get a vehicle inspection in DC? You have the following options:

Option 1: At the DC DMV Inspection Station

The station located at 1001 Half Street, SW, Washington, DC 20024. Note that the inspection fee is paid at the time of registration, not at the station. You can either schedule an appointment on their website or just go to the inspection location, where cars are inspected in order of arrival during their hours of operation.

Option 2: You can go to a local mechanic in the area.

Just make sure that you call in advance to make sure that they can complete the DC-state vehicle inspection form (you can even confirm that they do the kind that is required for Uber and Lyft drivers in DC).

Option 3: Our recommended option for drivers in DC who need an inspection – use YourMechanic.

YourMechanic is basically the “Uber for mechanics.” You schedule an appointment on their website and then a mechanic will come to wherever your car is to perform the inspection, or any other mechanical service you need. The best part is that you don’t even need to be present at the time of the appointment! We are big advocates for making the inspection process more convenient for drivers, so we encourage you to give YourMechanic a try – use this link to schedule your appointment.

Lyft vehicle requirements in Washington DC

The requirements for Lyft vehicle inspections are pretty much the same as those for Uber. The inspection can be state-specific inspections from DC, Virginia, or Maryland. The inspection is valid until the marked expiration date. If no expiration date is listed, then Lyft will require a new inspection to be completed within a year after the original inspection date.
