Can I Complete a Virtual Rideshare Mechanic Inspection When it’s Dark?

The great thing about using Rideshare Mechanic for your Uber or Lyft vehicle inspections is the convenience our service provides. There’s no need to arrange an appointment with a local mechanic, be restricted to their operating hours, or pay silly money for additional or unnecessary repairs.

With Rideshare Mechanic, you don’t even need to leave home! You can complete your vehicle inspection at anytime, from anywhere using your smartphone and our downloadable PDF inspection forms. But, one question we often get asked coming into the winter months is, “Can I complete my inspection in the dark?”

And with the nights getting darker earlier, we thought we’d let you know…

YES, you can.

Completing your vehicle inspection at 8pm on a cold, dark, December night might not be the most fun you’ve ever had, but it’s certainly possible! There’s no need to wait. As we said, with Rideshare Mechanic, you can schedule an inspection at ANY time, wind, rain or shine, 7 days a week, from 9am to 9pm (PST).

Here’s what you need to do to complete your Uber or Lyft inspection when it’s dark:

Let There be Light!

First of all, park your car in a well-lit area. If you have good security lights in your driveway, then this is perfect and will be the most convenient for you. Gas stations or car parks are other good options, as they are usually very well-lit and will provide the perfect amount of light to complete your inspection effectively. Just make sure you have plenty of space to move around and won’t be in the way of other road users as you move around your vehicle.

If none of those are an option, then being in a relatively lit area and having a good old-fashioned (and strong beam) flashlight should do the trick. As long as our inspectors can clearly see the car and all the features via your smartphone screen, we can still complete your vehicle inspection in the dark.

Are Street Lights Enough?

Unfortunately, no. Street lighting is pretty poor even at the best of times and it just doesn’t give sufficient visibility for our Rideshare Mechanics to complete your vehicle inspection.

While we do advise you to be prepared for your scheduled inspection appointment, if something unexpected happens and it turns out that there is not enough light, then don’t worry! We are a risk-free service and only charge if you pass the inspection (unless there are glaringly obvious issues with your car, like a cracked windshield or bald tires). In the case of insufficient lighting, we will simply reschedule another appointment with you at a time that is convenient for you.
